A big boy's playground. Too cool. Wouldn't you need to have the carpet on something very solid to limit 'wrinkles' while walking?

Nice. Had wondered about that. But i guess if the ground is as hard and level as possible, it wouldn't have *that* many issues.
Man i can't wait to see what ya do with this backyard backlot. SHould be awesome. arg. There's that word again. haha

That's the beauty of that carpet: It doesn't wrinkle the way a muslin greenscreen would. Yeah it's a little wavy here and there, but it still keys out nicely.

I am liking this idea. Does the paint on the back of the carpet remain flexible enough to not crack when you roll it up or unroll it after a period of time? That would be my only concern.

Yes it does! Now, I must admit that "a period of time", in MY view, hasn't transpired yet. However I have rolled up and unfurled this carpet several times and so far it's taking the beating very nicely!

Given whatever 4 coats of drywall primer costs out of pocket, plus the time it took to paint the carpet, wouldn't it have been better to just order a screen frm tapetube.com?

The other goal I'm attempting to accomplish with these videos is to inspire other users who, like me most of the time, may not have the financial resources to order a professional greenscreen package all at once.
Part of the fun of doing it THIS way
more...
is inventing one's own process from available resources. A person can purchase, in small, digestable bites, an area of carpet here, a gallon of paint there, a roller and tray kit over there, some primer over here, some masonite or plywood panels, remnants of keyably green (or blue) fabric at thrift stores and discount fabric outlets, fluorescent green sticky felt at a craft store..... and still EAT! (And you can tell I like to eat!)
Of course I enjoy seeing videos of people who do it the professional way, because they are chock full of great advice which I take to heart, but I am more INSPIRED by those who invent their own amateur chroma key setups from their available resources and get great results anyway. If they're into this stuff, they'll find ways to improve, and develop reasons to invest more.

Got one! LOL. Twenty-footer!
Besides...sometimes I just gotta physically MAKE something, and the experience of doing it helps my creative juices flow. The beauty o fTHIS setup is that it will take the abuse of heavy action better than the flimsy muslin

greenscreen from tubetape.com.
I'll show off the tubetape.com greenscreen on a later video.

Cool!...I bet your going to have lot's of fun with that.
Just a thought...Would a curved intersection where the horizontal meets the vertical...help eliminate the shadow?

I also have an additional emergency resource: Bright fluorescent green Duct Tape! It keys out beautifully, biut it is rather shiny, so I have to be very careful about reflections from lights, otherwise I have these little white hot spots that don't

Actually, that's never been a problem for me, Fred. I have found that digital video chroma key can be very forgiving that way. Especially in post-production where I have a couple of tricks to get around problem areas. If there's enough light spilling

more...on the seam, it disappears. However, I could push the carpet up a ways and get that curved bottom if I needed to, but I've been amazed by what actually does key out!

Backyard Backlot: Outdoor Chroma Key Wall Test No.2
Now the wall has been completely coated with Professsional-Grade ROSCO Chroma Key Green VideoPaint (Also avaialble in Chroma Key Blue). We paid around $72.00 US for a gallon of this stuff, but ONE COAT

gets the job done, where I previously used THREE coats of Behr Premium house paint. If time is money on your set, then the Rosco paints definitely save you money. It's a cost versus value argument. Big thanks to my best bud Larry Lo Presti for coming over on his days off and helping me get this project more and more completed.
