 | Latest post Mar 17, 08 by akkayakr So your a film maker! There is a big spilt on peoples thinking on what gets seen by people actually plays a roll in shaping and influencing culture. It is more than just entertainment, lots of us have found the idea profound that you could make a production that could influence the way people see a given subject matter. This is why many people become producers and directors, well and money. Yet when it comes to being held accountable on an ethical, or moral issue about what has been shown or the way it is portrayed few film makers accept that their work may have plaid apart in what people do in society. Our culture is rapidly changing, more sexual content, younger in age, more violence, more crime, less ethics and culture being shaped by this as the influential young watch. There use to be heros, they use to ware white hats as symbols of morality, an ethical behavior. But now days you are likely to find that the leading roll is a bad guy, who faces off against worse guys, yet there is little real moral standard. Movies of kids, teens involved in sex, about complicated relationships in complicated times growing up. This adds to drama, and we are told viewer interest. Each new film though tries to stand out from the other, has to have something special, has to be more provocative, push the edge and boundaries a little farther to get your attention. Good guy aren't in films any more. 1 in 4 teens now have an STD, and everywhere media and music push the boundary to under ages. Sex is Sex, it has nothing to do with having kids now days. Girls make the choice to have an abortion because their social teen life will slow down or stop. Love is not a requirement for sex, in fact it can slow you down. Spring Break for high school and college is running off to lake Havasu or the Florida Keys to turn loose, and be on the new "Girl Gone Wild" production, and strip down in clubs for sex. The more there is, the more money is made at the box office. But the more culture is influence also. Seems like to me the generation of today is more self involved with there cell phones rather than concerned with culture morals or political ethics, or even environmental concerns.
Do you think there is a problem, or anything to be concerned about? Do you have any moral obligations as a film maker, even if it's just for the web? Will the film industry learn to show any caution? If everyone strives to be an individual of self expression without boundaries, what is left to hold community together, who is going to care about those who have needs, who is going to look out for you? Like LiveVideo, there is no much censorship on here. I saw the other day a military serviceman through a puppy dog off a cliff as a performance for a web video, it screamed for about 90 feet before it went splat, and then it was funny. So how long before other kids see that it is acceptable to show a lack or respect for life so that they can emulate, and get there video seen by thousands of views, and other young kids. Columbine was not the first school shot up, but having made a movie about does nothing to discourage mentally or emotionally ill from thinking that they don't just want to kill themselves, they want to take others live out with them, be a spend a period in infamy.
So, what responsibility do have, for shaping the ideas of the others? |
