In consideration to all characters that are Mario's Rogue's Gallery, Count Bleck would make an even better Darth Vader than Bowser. Vader and Bleck do seem to have similar origins.

Anakin Skywalker fell in love with Padme Amadala and became worried about losing her. Palpatine persuaded Anakin that turning to the Dark Side was the only way to save Padme. Anakin essentionally became "Darth Vader", destroyed the Jedi and Padme (the very person he wanted to protect).

Blumiere fell in love a human named Timpani, but his father didn't approve of it. Blumiere's father cursed Timpani to wonder for all eternity. Blumiere went to find Timpani, but failed. He assumed Timpani was dead, Blumiere was reborn as "Count Bleck" and threatened to destroy the fabric of existence to avenge Timpani's supposed death.
