| | |  | I think it's a little too soon to tell just yet. I do know we're in a self-control crisis, which has led to the current symptoms including financial crisis.
Food: The industry created super-size meals. While an occasional super-size meal isn't going to kill you, always super-sizing certainly will. People couldn't help themselves and lawsuits had to force the industry to be the conscience of the individual.
Entertainment: Nothing wrong with a little TV, but we have people from little children on up through our seniors immersed in media-overload. The resulting social disorders are crippling us as a nation who can't get enough pharmaceuticals to "treat" our social disorders.
Money: Deferred gratification is a thing of the past. Too many people make a credit purchase decision based not on whether they can afford the item, but whether they can afford the minimum payment for the item. Sure, our economy has been growing the past couple decades, but how much of that has been built on a credit bubble that is just now beginning to pop?
These things have created people that are too fat, unhealthy, numb, broke, and hopeless to have a chance of contributing to society. This will be the systemic cause of many problems in our nation, including recession, if we as individuals don't "suck it up" and take action in our own lives to curb appetites for short-term gratification.
